Good morning, Missoula. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 15th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Montana is now the ninth oldest state with a median age of 40.8, meaning fewer young people move in and more retirees stay. Missoula, Bozeman and Billings will soon face higher demand for health and senior services—changes that may also affect local schools and jobs.  Newstalk KGVO
  • Missoula's Homeless Outreach Team spent three hours downtown today to check on people facing cold weather — they stressed that their work alone will not keep those in need safe when temperatures drop further.  Missoulian

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rolling Stones concert film At The Max will have a limited IMAX run on December 10 at AMC Missoula 12 on Mullan Road and AMC Shiloh 14 on Shiloh Crossing Boulevard in Billings (this remastered film captures the band’s Steel Wheels era performance) for a brief period.  Newstalk KGVO
  • A handwritten cookbook was found in the KGVO Radio storage room in Missoula—its pages show many old recipes like Date Beef Cookies and Pickled Venison Heart with simple drawings. Staff plan to preserve the book as a piece of local radio history while they check on Tinsley Palmer’s role at the station.  Newstalk KGVO

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Blackfoot valley learned that a gravel pit is planned close to the Blackfoot River and gathered nearly 1,500 signatures on a petition delivered to the county board—local experts say the move may allow time for studies and a review of zoning rules to protect the river and nearby homes. The petition gives the community a chance to explore alternatives before a permit is issued.  Missoula Current
  • The City Council is reviewing a plan that would let Big Sky Professional Baseball install artificial turf at Ogren Park—residents and local experts warn that the change may increase heat hazards and contaminate nearby waterways. Critics say replacing natural grass could undermine local climate goals and risk athlete safety.  Missoula Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in the Lower Rattlesnake and Heart of Missoula neighborhoods are asked to share thoughts on train horn noise at the Madison-Spruce crossing as the city uses a survey to decide if a noise reduction project should move forward and be funded by a special improvement district. The survey is available online and on paper and runs until December 5—responses will help city officials plan funding and next steps.  MontanaRightNow

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sandy Bailey urges residents to thank Montana’s 214,000 family caregivers who spend an average of $7,200 out of pocket each year to support loved ones. She calls on lawmakers to update long-term care policies before the 2027 session—hoping to ease the financial strain for caregivers.  Missoula Current
