EDUCATION NEWS

  • UM and MCPS are expanding a partnership—focused on increasing preschool programming—to meet enrollment needs for kids and families. Allison Wilson said the plan is mutually beneficial—ensuring the new space will serve these needs.  Missoulian

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Missoula is considering replacing the natural grass at Ogren Park baseball field with artificial turf after The Big Sky Professional Baseball Company requested longer field use. Mary Mulcaire-Jones warns that the switch could increase exposure to harmful chemicals and microplastics+ she urges a vote against the change to protect local youth.  Missoula Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missoula City Council’s Climate, Conservation and Parks Committee approved a funding swap that reassigns remaining 2006 Open Space Bond funds to fully support the Inderland-LaValle Creek Conservation Easement while moving Hayden Conservation Easement funding to the 2018 bond. City officials said the resolution prevents loss of tax-exempt status and does not require any additional dollars.  KPAX

  • Recovery groups in Missoula hosted an alcohol-free Griz watch party at 3 p.m. at the Fourth D Club on Broadway and Russell—organizers say the event is open to all and they hope for a bigger turnout during rivalry week.  MontanaRightNow

SPORTS NEWS

  • Billings West held off Missoula Big Sky — a strong second quarter and key defensive stops helped the Golden Bears earn their first Class AA state final trip since 2021 — in a hard-fought game.  Missoulian
  • On Saturday, the Montana Griz beat Portland State 63—17 at Providence Park as quarterback Keali'l Ah Yat threw three touchdown passes and ran for another, moving the team to an 11—0 overall record and 7—0 in conference play. The team now leads the nation in pass interceptions with 18 while head coach Bobby Hauck earned his 86th Big Sky win and next Saturday’s Brawl of the Wild is set for the future.  Newstalk KGVO
