- ➤ A boar stud facility has opened in Cascade County to supply farms with high-quality boar semen from 412 mature boars — owned by Hutterite colonies and developed with Pork Storks of Montana. Thirty-five farms will receive deliveries two to three times a week and a $150,000 GTA award funded the biosecure facility — which features rigorous sanitation and strict protocols. KPAX

- ➤ Airport officials said that rising fuel prices, better aircraft performance and more competition are driving higher holiday airfares in Montana—data shows that these trends may raise costs for travelers this season. Missoulian
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today Montana’s winter open burning season begins and runs through Feb. 28; residents in the western burn zone need to submit online permit requests by 4 p.m. for next-day burns and by 3 p.m. on Fridays for weekend burns, while those in the eastern zone must call DEQ before igniting clean, untreated wood and plant materials. DEQ reviews atmospheric conditions daily to prevent poor air quality from winter inversions—local restrictions may apply. KPAX
