COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Gianforte announced a food drive and highlighted services at the new food bank headquarters in Missoula (state employees donated over 7,500 lb last year).  Missoulian

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Montana ranchers may soon replace miles of barbed wire with virtual fencing technology from Vence. The GPS collars provide audible alerts and small electric jolts to steer cattle within digital boundaries — easing labor and protecting rangeland.  Newstalk KGVO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A California tribe’s return of 900 acres near Yosemite may set a model for Montana tribes to reclaim culturally significant lands in Glacier, Yellowstone or Missouri Breaks—if private donors or new legislation step in.   • The city approved a $149,000 contract on Wednesday to convert the library's rock roof into a living roof that manages stormwater, reduces urban heat, and creates pollinator habitat; it received a $1M grant requiring a 25% match plus local contributions over two fiscal years.  Missoula Current
  • The city is advancing plans for a living roof at the public library, which will be partly interactive and viewable from indoors. Engineering work will begin soon to design a sustainable green space that enhances the facility.  Missoulian

HEALTH NEWS

  • Missoula Public Health said a man over 80 with underlying conditions died earlier this week; this flu death marks the first of the season as Montana reports 234 cases and six hospitalizations statewide, and free vaccines are offered at pharmacies and the public health clinic on West Alder Street.  KPAX
  • Montana health officials confirmed two measles cases on Nov. 28 and Dec. 1, with exposures in Gallatin and Missoula counties (a Missoula visitor visited TJ Maxx, Scheels and Old Chicago on Nov. 22); residents are advised to monitor symptoms until Dec. 14 and seek guidance if exposure is suspected.  Newstalk KGVO
