COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This Old Frat House in the University District is hosting the Jingle & Joy pop-up free store event for kids this Sunday, Dec. 21 at noon, and donations for new or gently used toys and clothing are accepted until today.  Newstalk KGVO
  • On Dec. 18, the Missoula Police Department honored Danit's memory by unveiling a plaque (repaired by volunteer Pony Keepers) that documents recovery efforts after her disappearance from the Clark Fork River in February and recognizes the support of first responders.  Newstalk KGVO

  • A broken lavatory did not stop American Airlines Flight 4199 from completing its 1,300-mile trip from Chicago's O'Hare to Missoula International Airport today.  Missoulian

  • Missoula saw American Airlines launch a year-round nonstop flight to Chicago O'Hare on Thursday, expanding connectivity and offering faster access to eastern and international markets + boosting local economic opportunities.  Missoula Current

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Roofing companies report that days after strong winds swept Western Montana, over 50 calls have been received from Missoula, Bitterroot and Flathead Valley regarding roof damage. They advise homeowners to inspect roofs promptly and secure exposed decking — a measure to prevent further water damage.  MontanaRightNow
  • Governor Gianforte issued an executive order on Thursday after Wednesday's wind storm caused damaging gusts and left thousands without power. Missoula recorded wind gusts of 63 mph, and the order allows state resources to support repairs and restore services.  Missoula Current
  • A federal judge approved a USFWS request to remand five grazing permits on Red Rock Lakes Wildlife Refuge so the agency can reassess cattle grazing with a new monitoring protocol scheduled for 2026 — the permits remain active until Oct. 31.  Missoula Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. House on Dec. 19 voted to pass a resolution that would remove endangered species protections from wolves, meaning Montana wolves may shift from federal to state control. Montana Reps. Ryan Zinke and Troy Downing supported the measure, and the bill now heads to the Senate.  Montana Public Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Missoula woman suffered a heart attack while serving as a juror and was saved by a detective administering CPR in her courtroom. She later urged residents to get CPR-certified to help in emergencies.  Missoulian

SPORTS NEWS

  • Missoula Big Sky defeated Belgrade in the season finale after DeCoite scored 30+ points to secure a decisive win. The game marked a strong finish for the team.  Missoulian
  • Former Bobcat champions Rick Vancleeve and Delmar Jones recalled coach Sonny Holland's inspiring words as they looked ahead to Cat-Griz 2.0, citing his rallying cry 'This is the place - now is the time.' Vancleeve plans to attend the game while Jones has booked his championship tickets.  KPAX
  • The University of Montana Alumni Association set up 50 watch parties nationwide for today's FCS semifinal on ABC at 2:00 p.m. A watch party at Red's Bar in Missoula, led by former Griz player Mike Helean, is expected to fill up while donations cover costs.  KPAX
