About this event

Tall Poppy String Band will be here for Dare to be Square Regional conference and will be doing a kickoff show at Longstaff House. Fiddler, George Jackson was here with Jacob Jolliff last year and is an amazing player.

Tall Poppy String Band is a majority trans old-time trio featuring banjoist Cameron DeWhitt, guitarist Morgan Harris (both based in Portland, OR) and fiddler George Jackson (Nashville, TN). Their shows are deeply historically informed by the American string band tradition, with special emphasis on those parts of the music’s lineage that are often ignored. Yet they also approach their source material with playfulness and experimentation, joyfully engaging with old time tunes from where they currently stand as a contemporary group of musicians with their own distinct artistic voices. Their upcoming second album Sovereign Pond is a collection of never before heard original tunes in the old time tradition, all newly composed by the individual band members – and then arranged by the group with the same interpretive depth and exploratory spirit they bring to traditional tunes
